Hump Day Laughter

First things first, hopefully you’re all getting as excited about my new link-up as I am. I’d prefer it not be an utter failure with 4 links (if I’m lucky) so I’m hoping y’all will do me a solid and spread the word and link-up with me (pretty pretty please 🙂 )

Ok, now for some fun. It is Hump Day after all. Anyone else out there a Vine-lover? Am I the only adult that loses brain cells watchin this stuff?….ok, well I’m about to make a believer out of all of y’all. I think this represents my life pretty well….#SingleGirlStatus (be sure to click the sound on)

Hahahahahahhahaha Excuse me while I continue looping this…….

Whew, laughter has subsided enough for me to go on, all y’all with me?

Today I have a few confessions……..

-I haven’t run since my Half Marathon a few weeks ago. I’ve thought about it and even put my shoes on this past saturday but ended up hiking and zero running was achieved. My only motivation to log some double digit miles is so I can eat an entire pizza myself….is that bad?

-Speaking of races, I just realized I hadn’t updated my Races page until I wrote this post….oops. You’ll notice my 2014 schedule has been pretty sparse thus far and I don’t really have an explanation for you on that one except I’m broke and can’t afford entry fees, sigh.

-The statement that blondes have more fun isn’t true. I have been the epitome of “all work no play” these past few weeks. Between finals, large end-of-semester projects, internships to organize, and moving plans, I’ve been pretty busy. Oh and also the whole work for money thing has been getting in the way lately. (that kinda made me sound like a Lady of the Night…I’m not just so we’re clear…)

-I got way too excited to design the new button for my link-up. So in that sense this blonde has still been having fun lol

LinkUpHosts

-I’m kinda worried this linkup will be a complete failure and I’ll have to retire from blogland in disgrace….you’ll help me out won’t you? Membership to the Secret Blogger Club is free….I’m also not above begging…if you’re friendship can be bought then I’ll buy it, just saying….

-I have 39 drafts (make that 41) sitting in my posts section. I can’t even pretend to be cool and organized b/c they’re all unfinished drafts…so yea there’s that. Maybe one of these days I’ll get my blogger act together.

-Speaking of which, it’s Cinco de Mayo on Monday which I only realized when someone asked if that was the theme of the link-up…..Um, Nope, I didn’t even know it was a holiday…I’m very out of touch with reality sometimes. Someone also had to remind me Mother’s Day is coming up (sorry Mom). For a girl who owns at least 4 calendar’s, I’m really bad with dates….

-Oh and remember that whole “I didn’t run so I don’t get pizza thing” from above?….I ordered the pizza anyway, oops….

Have anything to confess?

Plan on joining me in my link-up?

Liebster Love + New LinkUp Announcement

Before we start off this Marvelous Monday (thanks Katie!) I have a pretty exciting announcement!! I think by now everyone in blogland has read and weighed in on how uncool I am. From this great debate, however, a wonderful thing happened. I realized there are hundreds of ppl outside this “cool” group so why not create our own? Suzan from Welcome to The Nuthouse and I have done just that.

Introducing The Secret Blogger Club Link-up!! It’ll start up next Monday (May 5th) so start getting your membership dues and applications in order….kidding, it’s free duh and anyone can join (yes even you big bloggers out there). I’ll have more information later this week, so make sure to check back….Oh and pretty, pretty, please spread the word for me. I’d hate to realize I’m even more uncool than I thought and have no one join us. 😦

You can grab the button in my sidebar 🙂

Now for some Liebster Love. I’ve been so blessed to be surrounded with such wonderful and lovely readers ever since I started my blog journey. I’ve never had a mean or rude comment, y’all are wonderful! I can add that to reasons I know I haven’t hit big-time blogger status yet I guess lol. But seriously, if staying in the middle of the pack means I only get lovely, nice readers then I’m ok with it 🙂

Lauren at Running the States so generously nominated me for a Liebster award! Thank you Lauren 😀 Everyone go give her some love, she’s such a sweetheart. Also she runs and owns an Ariel tank-top so clearly we were meant to be friends. I’m sucha rule breaker lately that I’ll apologize in advance for not following proper Liebster protocol but y’all know I rarely do what I’m told. Below are Lauren’s questions for me. You can never know too much after all 😉

dfb85-81740-leibster-award

1. If you could run for any charity, which would you choose and why?

This a good question and I’m gonna be lame and not give a real answer. Any charity would be worth running for so I’d run for any that would have me!

2. What’s your biggest “one and done” activity that you would do?

I’m not super adventurous in the aspect that if I’m willing to do something once, I’m pretty likely to do it again. Except maybe graduate school. Two years of that is enough haha.

3. If you could live in any city, which would it be and why?

Boston, duh…do I really need to expound on this anymore than that? Y’all know I love me some Boston and I’m pretty sure I’ve said more than once that it’s the greatest city on Earth!

boston love

4. What’s the furthest you’ve traveled from home?

I lived in Utah for 3 years for college then moved to Boston after graduation for work. The Famfam is in TN so both are pretty far. Traveling wise I’ve been out to Cali but never overseas anywhere.

5. If money was no object, what is the one major purchase you would make?

I’d buy a giant vacation home for my entire family to congregate at. Of course house staff would go along with it so we wouldn’t haveta cook or clean. You did say money was no object right?

6. What is the proudest you’ve ever felt?

Well I think pretty highly of myself so I’m usually proud of me, but getting into grad school at the University of Kentucky was a pretty proud moment. Or getting a full-time job right out of undergrad. Or moving out on my own and surviving away from home in the big city. Or growing my hair out past my boobs….it really doesn’t take that much 🙂

7. What is your favorite movie of all time, and why?

She’s the Man……no explanation needed, am I right? Am I right? If you need that last sentence explained than we can’t be friends. Just kidding, I need more friends so if you didn’t get it, I’ll gladly explain.

8. If you could meet any musical artist, who would it be and why?

Bethany Joy Lenz. This goes back to my obsession over One Tree Hill (may it RIP). I’ve already made 3 trips to Wilmington in hopes of meeting her, though the last one was post-filming so it was all about nostalgia. If you’ve never been to Wilmington, NC you’re seriously missing out my friend.

9. What’s your favorite restaurant?

I like food and food likes me. Next question….

10. What’s your biggest pet peeve?

Shoot, I’m literally writing a whole list of them for a future post so stand by. My biggest one though, is people being fake. Just be you dudes and don’t worry about pleasing others. Also please stop chewing with your mouth open, ain’t nobody wanna see all that.

I hope y’all feel as if we are even better friends now. I’m turning the tables on y’all though. I wanna know if anyone can relate to my answers or extremely disagree? (just not on She’s the Man, that’s not negotiable)

Also who’s excited to join my not very exclusive club?

Lessons From a 20-something

Hello and Happy Friday Lovelies! 😀

I promise I’m almost done responding to everyone wonderful comments from my post the other day. I never knew declaring my unpopularity would be so popular lol. So thank y’all again!!

I think by now we’ve all realized growin up isn’t all sunshine and rainbows…what’s that quote? “With great power comes great responsibility” (nerds of the universe unite!) so with all that “freedom” you dream of as a youth come a whole lotta not fun stuff too. Bills anyone?

Through all my trials and tribulations and a whole buncha fun (don’t get me wrong, growing up is more awesome than not) I have learned some valuable lessons as I’ve gotten older and I wanted to share a bit of the wisdom I’ve gleaned (thus far) from adulthood.

Lessons

Yes, that is a golden mustache 😉

-Dry shampoo is a girls best friend. Bed head is no longer acceptable or cute. This isn’t just 9am world history class your attending but your job. A place where you’re expected to look like a functioning and intelligent human being.

-Friday nights are not just for partying. Your social status is no longer dependent on what party you were at or how many dates you go on(as if it ever was Ms. Too-cool-for-school)…That doesn’t mean you still can’t have a good time though. Until you’ve rocked out on your couch in your pj’s and called it a night at 10pm you haven’t really lived.

-It’s ok if you don’t know what you wanna do with your life yet. 18 isn’t/wasn’t your prime, you’ve still got plenty more growing and learning to do. That doesn’t mean to put your future off, just don’t feel like you’re being left behind b/c you’re not.

-That being said, being unmarried at 24 doesn’t mean you’re destined for the life of a spinster cat-lady (thanks for all the pep-talks though married friends). I mean, I like cats and all, but there’s no denying boys are better. A good one will come your way I promise.

-No matter how old you get, you will still miss patches of hair on your legs when you’re shaving so just come to accept it….sigh

-Negative people aren’t worth your time. Some people weren’t meant to stay in your life forever, so don’t feel back to let some negative friendships go. There are plenty of fun and positive people that can take their place, trust me.

-Netflix is no replacement for good old fashioned friend time…though friend time that includes Netflix just might be the best Sunday afternoon activity known to man…well throw in some food and THEN it’s the best time ever.

Hopefully we all learned something today. Before I go though, I wanna introduce y’all to one of my lovely ladies over on my sidebar. I promised not to sell-out, not to remain friendless so sorry, not sorry! Anyway, Rebecca writes over at A Married Writer and is so adorable and just so happens to reside in my favorite state (TN for those that couldn’t guess). I had her answer some fun questions (I answered a few over on her blog if you’d like to continue cyber stalking me 😉 ) so y’all can get acquainted, but be sure to click on over to say hi as well.

What made you start blogging?

I started blogging last January. I’m from California and I moved to Nashville to go to college. Once I graduated and got a job, I realized Nashville had become my permanent home. Because my family is so far away, the realization that I wasn’t just away at college anymore made me homesick. The fall before I started blogging I got engaged to my now husband and a blog felt like the best place to keep all my family in the loop about my life and my wedding planning. Since then, my blog has become a place of refuge for all my creative energy. I love writing and it has naturally grown into my little corner of the world where I can work on those writing skills.

What are some of your favorite posts?

I love looking back at some of my older posts to see how much I have grown as a writer and blogger. When my husband and I returned from our honeymoon I wrote a blog post about our experience climbing the waterfalls in Jamaica and how the challenge related to our new marriage. More recently I wrote a letter to Katy Perry about how to handle her breakup with John Mayer and a post about pimping out my kidney that was fun.

What is one thing you couldn’t live without?

Coffee. I have a serious addiction and I think I could single handedly keep Starbucks in business.

What is the theme song to your life?

I’d like to say it’s The Beatles Let It Be. I had the title tattooed on my wrist a couple of years ago to remind myself that when things get hard it’s best to just “Let it Be.” I have a chronic illness and often singing that song to myself made me remember that pain is only temporary. When I was very new to blogging I wrote a post about how that song changed my life.

Finally, give me two truths and a lie

1) I majored in Songwriting in College
2) I am terrified of people in animal costumes
3) I own four cats

I’ll let y’all guess which one is the lie!

Happy Friday Everyone 😀

Recipe For a Great Weekend

Holy Moly Batman! I can’t believe all the positive responses I got from the other day!! I seriously feel as though I HAVE hit the Big Time now 😀 You can go read it here if you haven’t already. I do want to reiterate that I was joking about all of those points…being married or loving Disney are not bad things. Also, I got several suggestions for a Mediocre Blogger Club to be formed….. I’m thinking there’s a potential link-up in there somewhere….I must ponder on this 😉

I hope everyone had a lovely Easter weekend! I honestly had one of the best weekends a girl could have (no I didn’t get a boyfriend, but thanks for asking…) I did think about those less fortunate than myself, however, and took notes on how to achieve marvelous weekend status yourselves. I’m sucha  giver 🙂

GreatWeekend

-Write a popular post about why you’re not popular…it might sound counterintuitive, but apparently ppl like that sort of self-depricating humor. You can also choose to write about why you are actually dateable despite your single girl status. Last option, just write whatever you want and I promise to come read and comment.

-Start your day out with a donut for breakfast! Preferably a giant one slathered in both glaze and chocolate icing from a unique coffee shop downtown. I suppose my trusty Dunks will suffice in a pinch….wait no, only giant homemade donuts are acceptable sorry…

North Limestone Coffe & Donuts

-Go on a road trip with your best friend. Mine was my sister and we were just driving to my parents, but 2.5 hrs is an acceptable length to qualify as a road trip. Oh and make sure your passenger falls asleep and leaves you to pass the time on your own. They’re there to keep you company so what’s a little nap right? (cough…cough….sister….)

-Attend one of your really good friend’s baby shower for her (soon-to-be) baby boy. Take lots of pictures of all the cute decorations to catalog for future reference. Or just look on Pinterest later b/c let’s face it, no one is all that original anymore (I know I’m not).

baby boy shower mustache decorations

-Hit up your favorite running trail in your absolute favorite running outfit, only to come home to your favorite cookies fresh from the oven. I really can’t think of a better way to spend the afternoon. If you have any suggestions please let me know b/c running and cookies make my life complete. (ok this one may have been wishful thinking….but it really woulda taken my weekend to the next level)

-Do your laundry and not lose a single sock! This NVR happens, I always lose a sock no matter where I do laundry, so this was a huge success and definitely worthy of of making any weekend marvelous in and of itself!

-Throw out every single step I just gave you and do your weekend your way! Lists are fun and all, but they’re really more of guidelines. 😉 Happy Monday everyone! 😀

How did you spend your weekend?

Oh and Happy Boston Marathoning y’all!! 😀

5 Reasons I Haven’t Hit Big Blogger Status

Hitting the one year mark of blogging has forced me to reflect upon my journey as a blogger. I started out mainly in the running niche, then have since branched out and evolved more into a wellness and lifestyle blog. (I guess anyway, let me know if you have another category for me lol). That being said, I’ve also come across 100’s of other blogs in all categories. One thing I’ve noticed is that alot of the “bigger” bloggers are all kinda the same. I’m almost convinced they all secretly belong to an exclusive club like the Illuminati and this is all a conspiracy…I kid…mostly….

Since really my only dream in life is to join this club (don’t try to deny it, I know it’s real) I’ve pinpointed the following reasons why they won’t let me join their secret society. (I’m apologizin in advance that these aren’t fitness goals Mar, but they are life goals so those count right? lol)

BigTimeBlogger

1. I’m not married, getting married, or have a man in my life right now…yup Single Girl alert! I have no cute hubby nicknames, date recaps, wedding planning, or babies/kids for blog fodder. I’m not bitter about it at all, nope not this girl. My naked finger, tear soaked pillow, and I are doing just fine thank you……..but just in case, anyone have a cute brother they wanna set me up with? Friend?…ok fine distantly related cousin?

2. I have no fur children….once upon a time I had a cat whose name was TK (aka something I can’t repeat out loud, but it starts with Thunder). He was the most adorable kittycat-man, but alas my apartment doesn’t allow pets. He now resides with my Parents and loves my Mother more than me. As you can imagine being abandoned by a cat did wonders for my self-confidence and man-catching abilities….

IMG_2735

3. I don’t drink copious amounts of [insert beverage here]….wine, tea, coffee, (tequila for you crazies out there)…..Can we still be friends if I don’t offer you a hot beverage to chat over or regale you with my tales of how many bottles glasses of wine I had before writing this? For you fitness enthusiasts out there, I nary have a protein shake or smoothie to offer either. As soon as room temperature water becomes hip I’ll have everyone beat though! (mad cackle)

4. I don’t pray to the Trader Joe Gods, “eat clean,” go on juice cleanses, or find the paleo diet even remotely tempting. Call me crazy but I like grilled cheese sandwiches, hold the weird combinations, and dessert that’s not made from dates or mashed bananas. When did casseroles go out of style anyway?…Oh wait, the 90’s? Fair enough…

5. I have no desire to drink the kool-aid that is Disney. It’s one big money making scam and the parks are the cesspits of America not where my dreams are made….hear that? That’s the sound of everyone rushing to unfollow me….well darn, now I’ll never make it to the big time. I take it back! Bring me the kool-aid!!

click the picture for the recipe ;)

click the picture for the recipe 😉

Bonus: my food photos weren’t shot in a studio by a 6 million dollar camera. I used my….wait for it….iphone. Ahh I said it and I know somewhere there’s a food blogger crying into her perfectly lit bowl of photo-ready oatmeal. For that I am truly sorry. I mean who wants to eat teary oatmeal?…that’s the real tragedy here. Let’s think about that for a second….

Things for my blogger bucket list….one day I’ll see those shiny lights and know I’ve been inducted into the Blogger Secret Society. Until then, I guess I better start working on gettin a man, a pet, a beverage addiction, and a real camera…Did I leave anything out?

In all seriousness, I write b/c I love it and my many readers and subscribers are nothing to scoff at anyway. I could do a heck of a lot more than what I do to try and get followers but that’s not why I write. I write to make real connections not just get my name out there or make some dough. So I promise not to sell-out if you won’t (again I joke…calm down)

What other “big blogger” trends do I not follow? What about you?

Don’t forget to follow me on all my social media sites for more Blonde 🙂

Real or Prank? Convincing Mother Nature to Let Spring Stay.

Happy Marvelous Monday all you wonderful people out there 😀 First of all thank you for all the birthday wishes the other day. There better have been some donuts and cupcakes consumed in my honor that’s all I’m saying. 😉 In case you missed it, it was my 1 year Anniversary of starting B-SoL (no sorry, still havent’ come up with a better nickname) I designed a free background for your laptop, iphone, or ipad just for you so be sure to check it out!

This week is gonna be great, wanna know why? My  little sister is staying the week with me, YAY! Nothin is better than a bit of sister time….except sister time spent eating really good food. That probably tops the charts for me. Ironically we’ve got some fun stuff planned, mostly revolving around food…funny how that always works out.

My life is generally always marvelous (insert not-so-humble brag here) but today I wanted to share some reasons it’d be nice if Mother Nature didn’t take away Spring and turn it back into Winter like a cruel Cinderella-at-midnight prank. (forecast says snow on tuesday 😦 )

DearSpring

Reason 1: Birds are singing again. Nothing says Spring to me more then the Sun shining and the birds chirping. Although if anyone has ever seen Failure to Launch then you know birds outside your bedroom window are just plain annoying. The past few days some bird has been whistling the Hunger Games tune at me at 6am nonstop for an hour. I’m not sure if waking up about to be attacked by a small and ruthless child or starting a rebellion against a capitol of very strangely dressed ppl….so maybe singing birds aren’t a good reason…

Reason 2: Flowers! Everyone loves flowers right? They’re so pretty and smell so good. However, if you’ve ever strolled across the UK campus there’s these trees that look like the embodiment of Spring but smell like a Dinosaur’s butt-hole. For anyone that can’t imagine what that smells like, just know it’ll make you gag and quite possibly lose your breakfast on your way to your Health Communications class every Tuesday and Thursday at 10 o’clock…..

IMG_3019

Don’t let the smiles fool you…we smell pretty bad….KIDDING! We’re adorable 🙂

Reason 3: Warmer weather. Who doesn’t love warm weather? Polar Bears, but I don’t see no polar bears around these parts so everyone…everyone is the answer to that question. Of course having it so hot outside makes ppl sweat, which makes ppl smell bad. And it’s never any fun having to sit in a chair that someone has been sweating profusely in prior to your perky buns claiming it….trust me, it’s just not…(shudder)….

Ummm….so maybe those aren’t the best of reasons to convince Spring to stay? We can all admit that we’re ready for the Winter blues to go away though, am I right? So pretty please Mother Nature, don’t take this away from us again 😦

Clearly she’s gonna take some convincing (and I’m not very good at it) so what are some of y’alls reasons for Spring to stay?
