Lessons I Learned From a Bridal Shower

Hello. My name is Kelsey and I know nothing about wedding planning…..

No this is not a post to announce I’m engaged….still living in Single-ville, population of 1.

No, my older brother’s wedding is coming up in December (12.13.14 b/c they’re cute like that) and his beautiful fiance asked me to be a bridesmaid a while back. This might seem like no big deal to you other 20-30 something’s that have attended multiple weddings at this point in your lives. I, however, have seemed to have missed that day in class when all the girls learned about wedding planning…..

Bridal Shower

Growing up in a religious household that doesn’t typically have normal “traditional” wedding’s by most people’s standards (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints aka Mormon, maybe you’ve heard of it), I’ve only ever been to Mormon wedding celebrations. Not a bad thing, until you’re in the bridal party of a traditional wedding and you have no clue what’s going on….

Here’s a few things about bridal showers that I learned last weekend…..tell me if I’m getting them right

>> Don’t break a ribbon from a gift or else it means you’re gonna have a baby?….Pretty sure I butchered that one, but that was my take-away….???

>> Speaking of babies, bring one. It makes you the center of attention to all the other ladies…this party isn’t for the future bride anyway.

>> Don’t be the only one that goes back for more dessert…this isn’t a buffet (how can you turn down another mini cannoli is beyond me though)

>> When people tell you you look like the groom (my brother) all day don’t get horribly offended that they’re callin you man-ish. He may be a dummy-head (love you brother….as if he even reads this lol), but I guess he’s got pretty good genes…I mean you are a fabulous beautiful LADY afterall.

>> Guessing the answers to questions from someone you Thought you know really well (in this case my brother) shows just how little you actually know about them. (p.s. the bride got them all right)

>> DO stay after to help clean up, because you’ll get sent home with a plate of all the extra desserts the other guests didn’t eat…..Point Kelsey 🙂

>> Lastly, blame bad lighting on all pictures taken of you that you didn’t like because it’s certainly not your man-ish, ribbon-breakin, groom-lookin, dessert stuffed face that’s the problem!

Bride in the middle, two bridesmaids on the side

Bride in the middle, two bridesmaids on the side….Note: I will be the only blonde one haha

Bein serious for a minute (and only a minute) the shower was so much fun. And while I might have been confused at proper bridal shower etiquette, I think it went off without a hitch. Good food, good people, and lots of gifts (sadly not for me), still equals a recipe for success!

Now I wanna hear about some bridal shower traditions that you know of. Who knows, maybe one of these days it’ll be my turn (she said without a hint of bitterness in her voice….)

Hump ya lata 😛

Halloween Contest with Rover.com & PicMonkey

Happy Monday Friends!

I come to y’all today with such a fun contest! Rover.com has partnered with PicMonkey to show off our pet costume skills called #FrankenPet And while I may not love the whole dressing myself up for Halloween, I DO love a good pet costume 😀 Cute animals in costume, what’s not to love?

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

First off, Rover.com is basically an online pet-sitter finder (did that even make sense?) One would go to Rover.com to either find a pet-sitter for their pets or offer their pet-sitting skills. Pretty convenient so little Fido doesn’t haveta go stay in a kennel. Boo 😦

I feel as though I don’t need to explain PicMonkey to anyone, but just in case you haven’t sipped the Blogger kool-aid yet, it’s the most amazing photo editing site available. Not an opinion but a fact. They have a billion (also a fact) fonts, overlays, frames, and other editing tools to use.

Would you like to win a Go-Pro as well as free use of the Royale features on PicMonkey for an entire year? Le, duh. You’ve come to the right place 😀

Ok fine, so I do dress up too….who wore it best?

Contest Rules:

Between now and Halloween (aka Friday), create and share your photos online and be sure to tag them with #FrankenPet. When you tag your photos with #FrankenPet, you’ll be entered to win the grand prize: a GoPro camera and mount plus a year of PicMonkey Royale!! Additional runner-up prizes will also be given out.

One winner and one runner-up will be chosen in each category: “Creepy Canines,” “Scaredy Cats,” and “Other Beasts.” One grand prize winner will be chosen from each category so I guess if you’ve got more then one pet, get to snappin those photos!!

For more details on the contest you can click over to Rover.com. <<That link goes straight to the contest rules, I wouldn’t Trick you….I’m all about the Treats, duh 😉 Speaking of sweet, Rover.com also gave me a Promo Code for my readers. Use Code BLONDER20 for $20 off your dog boarding! My Mommy boards my dog but for an occasion when she can’t I’m all in!

She loves me….aka I’m holding her for these totally non-staged photos and she’s attacking my face to get away so she can chew her sweater off….

Have I convinced you to join in the fun? I know I’ll be sharin my spooky(?) pet photos because what’s more fun then dressing up an already adorable pet and taking pictures of it? Maybe a human baby, but let’s not push it…..

Now I demand ask kindly but with much gumption, that you also tag me in your photos so I can see them all!! (I might even pick my own and re-tweet/re-gram/re-post/re-whatever it)

**All photos must be created and shared between October 15, 2014 and 11:59pm on October 31, 2014. The winners will be announced on November 5, 2014.

***This is a sponsored post and I’ve been compensated, however, all opinions are my own. Plus dressing pets up is fun and I woulda done it anyway 😛

Marvelous Monday Weekending

Happy Monday everyone!

Can I be real honest with y’all for a second?

I really hate writing recaps…like a lot. Maybe it’s because I can’t imagine anyone wanting to actually read about what I did over the weekend…..

Like, Hi, my name is Kelsey and I did nothing this weekend. The End.

See you just read my entire recap. It’s over, finished, finite!….But wait!

This past weekend was very different from my norm. My Mother and one of my older brothers came to visit me, which actually means I did something. Sorry library books and Netflix. (then I wonder why I’m single jeez)

I worked pretty much all day Friday until late but we managed to meet up for lunch at my fave Tom & Chee. (heads up, all they serve are variations of grilled cheese…..Need I say more 🙂 ) Then ice cream after work…..WARNING there was lots of food harmed consumed in the making of this post….

Saturday we went to Shaker Village and went on a historical journey. It was the perfect Fall weather and I actually put on real clothes so it was another win…for everyone really…

Shaker Village Lexington, KY

Of course it was unanimously decided that I make a straw bonnet look good, but alas, I didn’t leave with one….

Shaker Village Straw Bonnet

After the Village my Mom and I did a little shopping and I finally found a puffy vest that I liked (Old Navy folks). I also picked up a few new flannels so I can officially get my Basic White Girl on this Fall!

Sunday Funday we spent the morning at the Farmers Market and I was extremely elated that there was kettle corn…because like, kettle corn is life……Oh and I of course wore some of my new clothes because when I say I rarely put on real clothes I’m not exaggerating in the slightest…..

Before you go, I’m holdin the Blog Baton on Instagram today so be sure to pop on over and follow along…..then Follow me as well because….well because.

How was your weekend??

Delusions and Other Confessions

Happy Hump Day Folks.

If it feels like October is half way over and you’re still recovering from it being August and school started then welcome to my current state of mind. Seriously Father Time, I need a minute or two to catch up, k?

Today I’m linkin up with both Kathy for Confessions and Taylor and Helene for Blogtober. First b/c confessions are cathartic and amazing and Two because I love quotes (today’s prompt and sort of a confession….kinda)

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Does anyone else create fictional stories in their head that might happen and how you’d react? Like, cute boy bumps into you and you say something witty and he instantly falls in love with you and you’re all I’m too cool for school?…..Just me?…I mean like full-on write the entire script for this delusional and very fake scenario and you always come up cool as a cucumber but if it actually happened in real life you’d be a bumbling fool?

Ok fine, just my life….

Here’s a good one for you…..does anyone else always find the biggest puddles and step in them? And I don’t mean on purpose b/c you’re a free spirit and you love Mother Nature and embracing spontanaity, I mean on accident when you happen to be wearing white shoes on the way to work……Every.Day…

The puddles of Lexington seriously have it out for me…

Quote time. I’m a quote person though so picking just one was really hard. I’ve always liked words so I pay close attention to quotes and lyrics. Perhaps it’s because when that fictional cute boy from above bumps into me I never have a witty comment in response….whatever…I’m beautiful on the inside.

Dr. Suess is a good go-to in a situation like this, so without further ado

I’m that annoying girl that is always lookin on the bright-side, finding that silver lining, and making the best of things (making my bout with depression that much more shocking). I’m actually a terrible person to complain to b/c out of the 70 bad things you tell me I really only hear the half a good one.

For some reason this also leads lots of people to complain to me to find that half a good thing…..Hmmmm, maybe I need to re-think my life strategy…..

How it’s your turn. What’s one confession from this week so far?

Next, b/c I’m a quote whore (that’s a thing) I wanna hear one of YOUR favorite quotes!

Cinnamon Swirl Banana Bread

If you find it strange that I’ve been posting like one recipe a week, then you’re not alone. This is far from a food blog (as if the photo quality didn’t give that away), but I like to eat and sometimes I like what I eat so much I wanna share it with y’all.

Also most of the recipes over the last month were all made within the same week right before I left Boston. For some reason I got it into my head that I couldn’t take any of my baking ingredients with me…in my car….which wasn’t even full…..so yea, blonde brain takes over again. But I was eating pretty dandy that week, just ask my hips. You may recall the cakemix pumpkin spice cookies, no-churn smores ice cream, or the zucchini bread…..

I was honestly a little worried how this bread would turn out because I didn’t have any butter, and since I was in “use-it-up” mode I wasn’t about to go to the store. I substituted for coconut oil. I read on Pinterest somewhere that as long as a recipe calls for melted butter you can do that. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Anyway, it worked out just fine for me, but I have nothing to compare it to so who knows. I followed the recipe here, and then of course changed it a bit because I’m lazy.

Cinnamon Swirl Banana Bread

  • 3 over-ripe bananas
  • 1/3 cup melted butter (again i used coconut oil)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • pinch salt
  • 1.5 cups flour
  • 1 tsp vanilla (I used almond extract..see again the lazy comment)
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1tbsp cinnamon

Mash bananas then add in sugar, butter/oil, egg, and vanilla/extract. She says to sprinkle baking soda and salt on top then gently mix in flour but it’s a bread not a baby so just dump the dry ingredients in and stir. Pour half the batter into a greased baking pan, sprinkle cinnamon sugar mixture on, then pour the rest of the batter in. Finish with a dusting of the leftover cinnamon sugar mixture.

Bake on 350 for 50-60 minutes. Mine took only 45-50 but I was using a shallower dish in my toaster oven so take that into consideration.

This was seriously so yummy and Im not even a huge fan of banana. I’m also attempting to get better at my food photography despite this never being a food blog. Whatcha think? Back to the drawing board or making progress?

I used some small props that I got from the Dollar Store. I read an awesome blog post (which of course I can’t find now) about cheap options for photo props. They involved tile, broken wood, foam, and poster board. All for backgrounds/bases duh.

Anyone have some food photography tips for me? Or wanna share some banana bread with me?

Essential Oils for Stress Reduction

I complain about grad school a lot….like entirely way too much. I know, First World Problems to the max.

In case you missed it though, I hit it pretty big this week by making my YouTube debut. I’m pretty much the hottest thing in Hollywood these days. Well if Hollywood is located in my Wednesday night Applied Wellness Strategies classroom in Lexington, KY….

In case you didn’t read all about my on Perez Hilton or catch my cover on People magazine, I’ve conveniently posted the video here for your viewing pleasure…..or displeasure if you like to hate on celebrities…b/c you know….I am one now and such….

Now you can say you were there at the beginning. Don’t worry, I won’t be one of those lame down to earth and grounded celebrities. I’ll be sure to jack up my Diva status to level Beyonce but attitude like Naomi Campbell. Everyone loves a good train-wreck. And I can’t be disappointing my adoring public now can I?

Have you ever had a video assignment for class?

Or better yet, where is a link to said video so I can watch it!?!?!

Jet-setting to California Brings Revelations

Hello Friends and welcome to another Monday.

First a giant and resounding Thank You to everyone who not only left me the sweetest comments on my last post on dealing with depression, but took the time out of their day to send me personal messages as well. I’m still responding to them all (a week in San Diego with no computer will put a person extremely behind).

plane ride to california

I also wanted to assure everyone that a I am not currently curled up in a deep, dark hole. Quite the contrary actually. My trip to Cali was just the jolt I needed to revitalize me and remind me just what I’m doing here in KY. The conference was so fascinating and not only did I learn a ton from all the speakers and break-out sessions, but I also met so many interesting people and saw so many different avenues to take my career aspirations. More then I ever even knew about. To say I’m sad no longer is an understatement.

That being said, I know once I settle back into my routine here in KY it might and probably will come back. Not that KY isn’t a great place, it’s plenty lovely, but being away from family and friends and losing your purpose can really screw with your psyche. Hence the depression.

I feel as though I’ve been forcing good material here lately and between work, school, and future things I haven’t had the quality time I feel this site needs. I’m not saying I’m done for good or forever, but maybe a step-back is in order. As in some days I just might not have anything to say so I won’t say it. Others I may post with the same banter I normally do with some delicious recipes to fill your face with. I can’t promise anything except that I’ll still be comin round to everyone else’s blogs. It happens to be my favorite part of blogging anyway.

I don’t know much, but I do know that sometimes life sucks and sometimes all you can do is write about it in hopes that someone else can relate and perhaps we can help each other through it. I apologize if there’s a lack of sarcastic lists about nothing that I tend to post, maybe they’ll reappear and maybe they won’t. If I lose a few readers, oh well, this is what I need to do for now so thank you to all those who stay.

Now tell me about Your weekend?
