Is It Bad?…..

Hey Folks,

Welcome to Friday! I don’t know about y’all but my week seemed to drag. I guess having tons of free time can do that for a person, whomp, whomp.

However, I’ve now had 4 interviews with a company, (fifth one scheduled) working my way up the ladder meeting with people so, despite not having an official offer yet, I feel good about my chances. Thank you to everyone who wished me luck the other day. it gave me a confidence boost which I think pushed me in a good way!

Anyway, I haven’t shared my rando thoughts for awhile and thought that now that I’m all old and on the down hill slop of my 20’s I’m like wise or something. Although, after explaining things that I still don’t understand, I felt it only right to ask a few questions as follow-up.

Leaves in Fall

Is it Bad?

Is it bad…. that my bff went out of town and I realized that I was totally fine spending the weekend alone?

Is it bad…. that sometimes I eat popcorn for dinner….for a week straight?

Is it bad…. that I once fell asleep on the bus on the way back from the Field Trip when I was supposed to be supervising 30 kids?….Maybe twice?

Is it bad…. that I’ve been looking up wedding venues and don’t have a ring? Perhaps the correct question for that one was, is that creepy….

Is it bad…. that sometimes I prefer my books over real-people interactions?

Is it bad…. that one of my most popular posts this past month was a fashion post and now I want to be a fashion blogger? People like their fashion yo, and I’m not even any good at it! lol

Is it bad…. that I only went to Starbucks to be able to Instagram the cup?

Is it bad…. that I sometimes get jealous of other bloggers designs? Like, how you do dat Blogger?

Is it bad…. that even though I want a FT job, I’m slightly sad to give up all that free time. Goodbye hours of reading time….

Is it bad…. that I don’t have a set blogging place? Everyone has been sharing their adorable desks or offices and I’m over here like, where my laptop at?

Is it bad…. that as much as I love Fall, I know it leads to a New England winter and I’m nervous about what that may bring.

Is it bad…. that I finished an entire season of Reign in two days? (seriously watch that show)

Is it bad…. that it’s mainly been Jen, Alyssa, Alanna, Rachel, and I in my Instagram challenge and I don’t even really care because I’m having so much fun?

Is it bad…. that I just shamelessly plugged my challenge? lol

Have you done anything lately that’s made you think “Is is bad?”

Got any fun plans this weekend?

Secret Blogger Club (17)

Happy Wednesday Folks!

I’m so sorry for getting the linkup started late. For some reason I woke up at 5am today and decided to go do my laundry. It wasn’t until I got there and loaded the first machine that I realized I hadn’t scheduled today’s post to go live inmy absence. Blogger fail. But I’m here now and hopefully you’ll still join in the fun!

I have so much fun finding new bloggers who I really connect with and then in turn supporting them reach their goals. maybe this will mean I may never reach that Big Blogger status but whatevs, I’m having fun doin what I’m doin so I’m not really that upset.

Although driving around the mountains until we get lost and end up eating at an Arby’s because that’s the only thing open isn’t quiet as romantic, but ya know, ya make do. And clearly JB was doing something right because I’m still here 4.5 years later. (note: we haven’t been back to an Arby’s ever lol)

Green Monster Breakfast Smoothie

Happy Monday Party People!

You’d be the only party people in the room right now because I spent my entire weekend in the library studying for my graduate exams this week, whomp whomp. But with two snow days beforehand, you best believe I completed two more hats, an ear warmer, and a scarf so I got my “partying” out of the way before the weekend lol

Anyway, today’s recipe comes to you in honor of my Boston bound Spring Break next week!!! You know I just couldn’t stay away so it’s 7 days in the city that’s still buried under snow. I really planned my “Spring’ break really well this year lol

Green Monster Smoothie4

Anyway, with all this cold weather that just won’t stop, I’ve been terrible at getting my greens in. Carbs? No problem. Homemade warm and delicious sugary treats? duh, I made donuts remember….

So yea, I needed an easy and doable way to get my greens in until Mother Nature decides to bring real life back to us. Now there’s no shortage of green smoothie recipes out there, just go on Pinterest and you could scroll through that page for the next 1,000 years and still find more.

So what makes mine different?

Green Monster Smoothie3

Actually I have no idea if that’s never been done before, ain’t no one got time to fact check 1,000 years worth of recipes! So I apologize if you’re the creator of spinach-cauliflower cubes.

[Tweet “I don’t always invent recipes, but when I do they involve chocolate #smoothie”]

I kid you not though, there’s a full serving of cauliflower in these puppies. On food prep day I blend one cup water with a batch of fresh spinach (not the bagged kind) with half a head of grated cauliflower. Once it’s blended into its green earthy glory, I pour it all into ice cube trays and freeze them overnight. Then you can either leave them in the trays or pop them out into a bowl like I do.

Green Monster Smoothie2

I also chop and freeze separately my bananas for extra bulky blended goodness the next morning. Finally I add in one cup water, a full navel orange, a dash of vanilla and peppermint extract, and blend well. Last I toss in a few (my few and your few are allowed to be different) and pulse 3-5 times until there’s tiny chunks on chocolate throughout.

I actually blend everything together the day of that I’ll be drinking it. Plus since the banana and spinach-cauliflower cubes are frozen there’s really no need for ice cubes to give it that frosty texture! Easy peasy no-lemon’s involved squeezy!

Green Monster Smoothie1

Green Monster Breakfast Smoothie

  • 3-4 spinach-cauliflower cubes
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 navel orange
  • 1 cup water
  • dash vanilla
  • 1-2 drops peppermint extract
  • flax or chia seeds (optional)
  • handful chocolate chips (NOT optional, kidding)

Blend well and enjoy! It’s really that simple.

Have you ever tried making your spinach cubes beforehand? What’s your favorite smoothie recipe to get in those greens?

Essential Oils for Stress Reduction

I complain about grad school a lot….like entirely way too much. I know, First World Problems to the max.

In case you missed it though, I hit it pretty big this week by making my YouTube debut. I’m pretty much the hottest thing in Hollywood these days. Well if Hollywood is located in my Wednesday night Applied Wellness Strategies classroom in Lexington, KY….

In case you didn’t read all about my on Perez Hilton or catch my cover on People magazine, I’ve conveniently posted the video here for your viewing pleasure…..or displeasure if you like to hate on celebrities…b/c you know….I am one now and such….

Now you can say you were there at the beginning. Don’t worry, I won’t be one of those lame down to earth and grounded celebrities. I’ll be sure to jack up my Diva status to level Beyonce but attitude like Naomi Campbell. Everyone loves a good train-wreck. And I can’t be disappointing my adoring public now can I?

Have you ever had a video assignment for class?

Or better yet, where is a link to said video so I can watch it!?!?!

Zucchini Bread

Happy Monday Friends!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. I spent mine makin some yummy treats that’ll be up later. I made zucchini bread the other day…many moons ago actually because who has time to bake something and then actually blog about it. Not this girl.

Anyway, the one thing I look forward to one day having in a real house and not a college apartment is a vegetable garden. I know, how domestic of me right? My BYU friends are surely laughing at this declaration right now because during my stay in the marriage capital of the world (purely conjecture on my part) I was vehemently against all things marriage and family. Not like let’s destroy the institution of marriage, just don’t be puttin no ring on this finger kinda attitude. I was such a rebel…..but I digress….

My Mother almost always kept a vegetable garden growin up and she made the absolute best zucchini bread. Well any bread (yes it’s true Mom) but zucchini was always one of my favorites. I wanted it really bad for like a week after perusing Pinterest and my patience didn’t allow me to wait for my Mommy’s so I tried my hand at it.

I’d say it was a success and considering JB ate like 3/4 of a loaf by the end of the day, I’d say he’d agree with me. In true Blonde fashion I managed to grate my knuckle along with the zucchini. My body seems to be rejecting my knuckles lately, not quite sure what’s up with that…

Zucchini Bread

  • 1 zucchini grated (1.5 cups or so)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1.5 tsp vanilla extract (I only had almond)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1.5 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda (ps Tori had a billion uses for this)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Preheat oven to 350 F. Wash and grate zucchini with skin still on. Avoid knuckles…In a large bowl combine sugar, oil, and vanilla. Then mix in eggs. I don’t have a hand mixer and it seemed fine so non-fancy bakers like myself can join in the fun too. Next, in a smaller bowl combine all dry ingredients then pour into wet mixture. Again I used a hand whisk no biggie. Finally add in your grated zucchini using a spatula.

Finally pour into a bread loaf pan, or if you’re like me a square brownie pan because your toaster oven isn’t tall enough for a bread pan….Oh did I mention I made this in my toaster oven? Keepin it classy over here as always.

Bake 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick (or dollar store fork) comes out clean. Note for you other toaster oven ladies, it takes almost an hour to finish if you did use a bread pan and burned the top…not that I did that or anything….

Eat and enjoy….

Anyone else love zucchini bread?

#FuelYourBetter Vega Pre-Workout Mix

Y’all I feel bad……

As part of my affiliation as a SweatPink Ambassador I sometimes get the heads up on some pretty sweet deals. You might remember the tasty and delicious Vega bars I wrote about a bit ago. Well I also had the opportunity to try out their pre-workout drink mix as well, as part of their Fuel Your Better campaign.

**Disclosure: I received free Vega products to review, but all opinions expressed in this post are solely my own.IMG_3126

Vega is a great company that only uses the best ingredients (and actually REAL ingredients unlike a certain Other company I recently wrote about….ahem…Quest….). I won’t get into the nitty gritty details of their team but you should definitely go check out their website if you wanna know more.

My Experience…

I’ve got bad news though….I didn’t notice a difference….zero, zip, zilch. I might as well have been drinking straight up water (my fave). Take this with a grain of salt however. I have a high tolerance for most things. I don’t bother taking OTC meds like aspirin or ibuprofen b/c they don’t do anything for me. Caffeine’s a no-go as well. One time on a really long road trip with friends I took 2 5-hour energy shots to stay awake when it was my turn to drive and (spoiler alert) nothing….

I’ve been reading a lot of other bloggers reviews and they’ve had positive results, so either they’re all liars (not likely) or I’m the exception to the Vega pre-workout rule. I’m ok with that, I’m not a big fan of pre-workout anyway. Because of this, and to try and give y’all the best review possible I gave it to some of my lifter dude friends. They said the flavor was really girly (I got the acai berry flavor) but other than that they liked them.

Bottom Line?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, in my opinion the normal person doesn’t need products such as these to get a good work-out in. OR if they are used it shouldn’t be before Every workout but occasionally if you’re really draggin, but more sleep may be the real answer to your problem.

Anyone else use a pre-workout?

(and is it just me or does the very word pre-workout bring to mind body builders on roids?)

Also don’t forget the Secret Blogger Club link-up is next Monday! If you’ve linked up before you’ll be getting an email to remind you later this week. The theme is Fourth of July (duh). Make sure to spread the word! I look forward to growing the group 😀
