#SomethingBarros; Destination Wedding

Can we talk about the Bachelor first?

I mean I know I’m 2 days late but I just watched it last night and want to go on record that I thought it was pretty obvious that Lauren B was gonna win from the start. Also I think I’m the only person who isn’t stoked for JoJo to be the Bachelorette. Andi 2.0 anyone?

But who cares what I think. I hardly ever watch the Bachelorette anyway. Call me sexist…..Well actually don’t….

But on to more exciting news!

You guys…….

We have officially booked our wedding venue……

I am officially getting married…..

This just got infinitely more real……..

Destination Wedding

P.S. if you read my post yesterday you know that putting your hand in a picture instantly makes you successful. Or something like that….

Anyway, did anyone else freak out slightly after paying that deposit on their venue?

It can’t just be me. As someone who doesn’t spend money unless it’s life-threatening or absolutely necessary (yarn doesn’t count!), the actual act of paying a few thousand for a venue can really mess with your head. Well the deposit obviously wasn’t a few thousand but still.

I haven’t even thrown down for a new phone upgrade in three years so you know I’m not lying about my tight fists!

But, it’s done. We have our venue which means we have our date. What’s even the etiquette on disclosing your wedding date? Am I supposed to wait until I send out save the dates? Can I tell everyone before that?

Speaking of save the dates, do you send those to people that won’t be getting an invitation?

Wedding stuff is hard….

Back on topic though. Our venue. Technically you could say we’re having a destination wedding. It’ll be in North Carolina and in case you didn’t know I currently reside in Massachusetts. Why did I decide to have our wedding over 800 miles from where we live you ask? Good question, glad you asked.

It goes a little something like this.

One summer in 2011, a boy and girl met in the mountains of NC. Said boy and girl fell in love with each other and said mountains. Boy and girl get engaged and get frustrated with all the $$$ wedding venues in New England. Frustrated boy and girl start talking about eloping. Boy suggests a small wedding with only family and close friends in the very mountains they fell in love in. Girl is super impressed with boy’s level of insight put into wedding planning and loves him even more. The End.

Well not really the end because we haven’t actually gotten married yet. That’s still to come.

Now that we have a venue and date I can actually start looking into other vendors and whatnot. Doing it from afar will be interesting but that’ll be a post for another day.

What I’m excited about next is wedding dress shopping next month with my Mom and Bridesmaids down in Charlotte! This weekend trip is much needed.

So look forward to many more wedding posts now that I actually have a wedding to plan for!

Did you have a destination wedding? Care to tell me I’m not the only one who freaked out at the cost of things?

Wedding Hashtag Ideas

Welcome back to another Wedding Wednesday Lovelies!

Posting only on a Wednesday is kinda cool. Ya know like on Wednesday we wear pink kinda cool.

Maybe one day another day will make it in the rotation but it’s a case of baby steps….

Down to business.

I don’t stress…about anything. Seriously, I keep it cool as a cucumber in any given situation that doesn’t involve open water or a shark attack. Or unwarranted confrontation. I don’t enjoy that at all…..

Post-engagement however, I started to stress about the most important part.

No not the dress, venue, or guest list. All of that pales in comparison to the official Wedding Hashtag.

Wedding Hashtags

The wedding hashtag totally sets the mood of your entire marriage. Have a lame hashtag and you might as well sign the divorce papers now. I’m not making this stuff up people, it’s science!

The only thing I could come up with that I thought was truly original and clever was : #IfYouLikeItThenYouBarrosPutaRingOnIt

It’s kinda long right?

Before I even called my family to tell them the good news, I was online trying to craft the perfect hashtag. I found the hashtag generator on Wedding Wire and had to share a few of my options.

#TakeMetoBarrosTown (and we have a winner)

#BarrosPartyof2 (cliche?)

#TheBarrosesSayIDo (predictable?)

#SheronBarrosMashup (Is this a sorority mixer?)

#StokedToBeaBarros (this one might be bending the truth a little much)

#LiveLaughBarros (What are we a beach?)

#Kelseyand JohnSittinginaTree (I’ve never climbed a tree so this would be false advertising)

#JohnLovesKelsey (good luck getting him to admit it in public!)

#YouHadMeAtSheron (except that I’m the bride….)

#HereComeTheBarroses (it’s growin on me…..)

So those are my options. I need your help. Are you more clever than the Wedding Wire? Give me a Hashtag or I’ll never sleep again!

But seriously share with me what your wedding hashtag was in the comments below!

Wedding Wednesday is Now My Thing

Well Folks,

Here I am again. I say again because I haven’t been posting on my blog for…well too long for me to even remember. I have been lurking in the blogosphere and reading your posts though. Bloglovin is still my most visited website. That and Pinterest so I’m still here. Gone but not forgotten…..

Anyway, in case you missed me, or didn’t, either way I have come back from the dead to announce something. I thought about announcing that I have an announcement like any good Blogger would do, but being MIA for months on end doesn’t really allow that much flexibility when coming back.

SO in case you missed it on Instagram on Monday…..

Engagement Moment

Oh yea, you’re looking at the future Mrs. Barros. Boom Baby!

You can see above I was caught completely off guard. Ignore the ratty tennis shoes and unwashed hair. And Lord, there isn’t a ring pic yet because heaven forbid my nails weren’t painted. But gosh darnit, it was downright perfect, so just focus on the giant smiles on our faces instead, k thanks.

As soon as it happened my first thought besides holy crap it’s so sparkly, was “Dangit I haven’t brainstormed any good hashtag ideas yet!!”

Clearly my priorities were in the right order. I’m working on it don’t worry. For now I went with a ball and freaking chain man hashtag theme….Because well, I feel like the Man right now. (movie reference layup?)

My second coherent thought revolved around the idea that I will finally hit the big time with my blog! Whop doesn’t love a good wedding post! Until I remembered that I haven’t blogged in…..well you get the picture.

Whatever, it’s brought me back from Davey Jones Locker and that’s about the best resurrection catapult I could possibly think of so I’m happy with it.

I still don’t have a computer, but I do now have a fiance with a computer who said I can use his whenever I want. Boy this whole engagement thing is already the bee’s knees!

But of course I now need your help because despite having a Secret Wedding Pinterest board with lots of cute pictures that all color coordinate with one another, I have no clue where to start. Well I know where to start but like how does one find a Photographer? Venue? etc?? Google?

Help a newly engaged sista out will ya!

Celebrating Friends in Philly

Happy Monday Friends!

Y’all know I couldn’t attend a giant wedding bash in Philly last weekend and NOT write about it right?

If you follow me on Instagram then you’ve seen some of the snapshots of my weekend, but I figured I’d go a little more in depth on here because I’m an adult and I do what I want. Except all the stuff I can’t afford because I’m broke as a joke and have student loans up to my armpits (#ThanksObama)

So here ya go, if photo dump aren’t your thing, then I’ve sprinkled in a few tidbits here and there for ya 😉

The rehearsal dinner kicked off at a Brazillion steak house in the suburbs of Philly. The food was delicious. Since I didn’t know anyone but a total of 3 people I didn’t whip my phone out for any photos beyond the people kind. Again it was dark in there as well so you just get the dress and accessories in the car over. I posted this photo of my entire outfit on Instagram and Kohl’s asked to regram it. Why? Because I went on a LC Lauren Conrad bender the other day and was wearing practically only her line. They have yet to follow through with that so we’ll see.

Wedding Rehersal

Next up, wedding day! Of course not my wedding day like a few friends thought I meant on Insta. Apparently I’m the type of friend to get married and not invite anyone. 😉

I did my own hair and makeup so excuse me for not being supes fancy. Actually I was pretty proud on how it all came together. Shocked really….

Wedding makeup

As you can see, even with pretty makeup on I can’t make a serious face. Ignore the lighting in like every single one of my photos, I claim reception lighting for some of them and the rest just bad blogger skills 🙂

I found the absolute PERFECT lipstick the day before we left and I’m seriously in lipstick love. It’s a matte shade and didn’t wear or rub off all night. I did reapply maybe three times between the hours of noon and midnight but only because I wanted to, not because it was actually coming off. I highly recommend. Mabelline Matte Lust for Blush.

Wedding LC Dress

Here is my entire look. Again the lighting was dark so I tried my best to lighten it up and this is what we are left with….weird lighting….. Whatevs. I wore on of Lauren Conrad’s new dresses from her runway collection. It was absolutely perfect and I felt so beautiful all night long. If you wanna know what this dress looks like on a model instead, look here.  I got it on sale (plus 3 other LC dresses all under $20) so really it was a steal.

I had a friend take a few different photos of accessories, the back of my dress, shoes, etc but those are boring and I’d rather show you a few fun snaps from the reception.

Wedding Friends2

Remember Jesse? She wrote this post for me. She’s also one of the coolest people I know who lives in Seattle now…boo, but she’s so happy so I’m happy because that’s what good friends do.

Look here she is again! Also I cut JB out of this photo to my right because he wasn’t looking at the camera and was I guess moving at the time because his face if all blurry. Either that or he self-censors himself in order to not appear on my blog. It’s really not my fault I swear!

Wedding Friends

So there ya have it. We’re a classy bunch. 😉

Ok, ok, ya pulled it right out of me. Here’s a photo of me and JB. Cue the doves!

Wedding Kiss

It was really so so fun though. And I’m so happy for Mr. and Mrs. Lint (who are currently traipsing around Europe, specifically the Swiss Alps!)

Have you ever attended a wedding that you knew next to no one at?

(Not My) Wedding Day

Hello Friends 😀

I know I’m late to the post wagon today but it’s b/c I went out with some friends for dinner last night to celebrate the end of the semester and I didn’t have time to put the finishing touches on it. (read that as I was too lazy and an episode of Gossip Girl sounded more fun then proof-reading)

So I’ve already shared the rehearsal dinner photos from my brother’s wedding weekend but today I wanted to share the beautiful photos from the actual day. (with the happy couple’s permission of course)

Oh but first things first I suppose I should announce the winner of the scarf giveaway. I’ve already emailed her (congrats jennifer!)and as soon as I hear back it’ll be on it’s way to her ;D A huge thank-you to everyone who entered and said such nice things about my work. I really do enjoy it and am hoping to branch out into some more fun designs and patterns.

Ok, back to the wedding. If you don’t like pictures or weddings I suggest you turn back now……

We started the day with all  the girls getting ready together. Professional makeup and not so professional hair (for my sister and I anyway, I did it myself….feel free to judge) Everyone looked so beautiful with their makeup. I seriously could have just stared at myself all day, I’ve never felt so pretty. But, there was another special lady that I was there to celebrate and she really did take the cake on being the most beautiful. (hint: I’m talking about the bride)

My sister is gorgeous and makes it hard to keep up.

Mother and sister 😀

And b/c it’s been well established that I’m pretty into myself, I took a duck-faced selfie in the car on our way to the ceremony. #SomeThingsNeverChange Can I look like this every day? K, thanks.

Of course the professionals took the ceremony photos and I can’t wait for the bride to get those in. I think I’m just as excited as she is! She’s had a sneak peek though, and I’ve been told they’re amazing duh (Jeri Ann Photography, check her out)  🙂 SO here are some phone snaps of the pictures post-ceremony.

All my siblings (minus a little brother not in attendance)

Inside, I got a few of the grooms table. My brother is weird and is really into Coca-Cola so his table was appropriately decorated. P.S. the wedding cake was delicious! I’m a bad blogger though and didn’t get a photo of the actual wedding cake before we cut into it. I feel it also noteworthy to tell you there was no cake-face-smashing much to the dismay of all the little children in attendance. Future groom take note, I will not have cake shoved into my face either….

Next was on to the dancing. Though since I was dancing I only got a few selfies. #sorrynotsorry (also I’m not sure why I feel the need for so many hashtags in this post…#sorrynotsorry?)

I got to dance with my Dad and brother of course. The rest of the night involved two little girls and some serious dance moves. There’s just something about weddings that make ya wanna dance.

My padre flew in from Germany for the Wedding

Those smiles make my heart melt 🙂

We finally sent the happy couple off with bubbles. Since I was busy blowing the bubbles I didn’t get shots of them goin through the tunnel of love (well bubbles) but if my sister does it justice you can imagine what it might have looked like.

The picture in front of the car is my attempt at being a wedding photographer. They stayed until the very end of the shin-dig which was so nice to get extra time with them. I’ll be seeing them for a few days this weekend again before they leave on their honeymoon to Disney.

Oh, And b/c public embarrassment is the name of the sibling game, here’s a photo of my brother gazing lovingly at his bride’s bouquet. He was also chasing bubbles at one point so it’s really not that hard to do…….

Processed with VSCOcam with t1 preset

I sure do love ya bro! You and your beautiful bride I can now call my sister 😉 I still so honored and blessed that they chose me to stand beside them on their big day. I can’t wait for us all to be together again…nerds!

Hopefully my own wedding day will be as perfect. I’m so happy to have a new sister 🙂

Pre-Wedding Day Fun

Whew what a whirlwind of a weekend that was, I barely made it back to school in time to hit the hay for work early this morning. And while I’m no expert on wedding’s, this one was a wedding for the ages. Only to be topped by my own of course, whenever that may be. Just call me alate bloomer lol.

After today all my finals and projects will be finished and I’ll be back on track in Blogland. I know I’ve been terrible at responding these past 2 weeks and I apologize for that. I have a bag of excuses to pull from so if you’d like one just let me know 😉

It wasn’t even my wedding and I’m so proud to post photos from it so I can only imagine what a picture posting crazy person I’ll be with my own wedding to celebrate.

I’ve gotten all bridal and groomal (?) (not that he cared) approval to post these. And really there just pictures of me with the groom (my brother) and the bride having some fun.

Here’s the day before when we set up the venue. I’ve got a ton to go through from the actual day so I’ll post those later so as not to overload you with all the gorgeous happenings. If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram (pssst you should) You’ve seen a real wedding photo, but today you get pre-wedding day first.

As you can see we have a very loving relationship. He’s only a year older then me and we were thick as thieves growing up. We worked all the same jobs and had lots of the same friends. Except the ones I dated in which case he no longer wanted to be their friend anymore (sorry boys…)

Bro’s before Hoe’s though……..He always wins in the end.

This beautiful lady is now my sister and I couldn’t be happier. She is so good for my brother and since she’s an only child, I get to be the big sister she never had. Since I’m already the best big sister there is (or so I’m told by the little one) I think she’s married into a pretty good family.

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

The three of us together can have quite the good time…..The very fact that I have a blog should tell y’all that I’m the spotlight stealer in the family. So much to say and I like my star to shine bright and hot. However, I’m no stranger to givin it up for a day or two…but Only two… 😉

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Sometimes Cody decides to be cute…..but don’t worry it doesn’t last long and it’s back to jokes and sarcasm per family tradition. Fun fact: He likes to tease me about being a dumb blonde but now I can tease him for being a boring old married guy. So much love it’s sickening ;D

And b/c it’s my blog, we’re going to end with a picture of me, b/c when you’ve been gifted with a good picture day you take advantage of it dangit!

Call me conceited, just wait until I tell y’all about getting my make-up done professionally……

Five Things + Hand-Knit Scarf Giveaway

I’m already down in GA for my brother’s wedding but I didn’t want to completely disappear on y’all like I normally do (a la last week anyone?). For that fact I decided to join in the Friday Five fun with some exciting things happening around the inter-webs!

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

If you Google anything about Quest Bars, my post comes up in the top 5 results most of the time. Can we let that sink in for a few minutes…..A post I wrote on a whim and didn’t think was a big deal now comes up in Google search results and brings me tons of traffic Every. Gosh.Darn.Day

To say I feel like a pretty big deal is an understatement to say the least….I’m also not sorry my #1 thing is tooting my own horn. toot, toot! (ew toot…. #deleting)

The photo above is showcasing my new robin’s egg blue yoga leggings. Yes robin egg’s blue is the exact color of these tights. I knew I wanted blue leggings, but until I saw these I didn’t know I exactly wanted robin’s egg blue. Quite fetching yes? I’ve probably worn them too many days this week already but as long as the same ppl don’t see me, that outfit doesn’t count right?

Do you read Girl on the Move? Duh, well if you happened to have missed this post from Julie then be sure to catch it ASAP! Then as soona s you’re done, go buy a postcard and get it in the mail pronto man! I’ve already got one form KY and I plan on sending one form TN and GA as well. Go do your good deed today 🙂

In case you missed it, Im in Augusta, GA this weekend for my big brother’s wedding. (#SheronWedding2014 it’s a thing) It lands the weekend right before my finals (thanks bro) so to say the stress of this wedding has over-extended itself to me as well is a bit of an understatement. I tried to get everything done before I had to leave but grad school rests for no man and I’ve got entirely way too much work to get done while attending a wedding. (p.s. I’m in the bridal party…..)

Because of that, I’m a bit slap-happy from too many late nights and and overabundance of excitement and joy. Which leads to the next one……

And last, but certainly not least. If you’ve been around here long enough you know I’m an old woman trapped in a 20-somethin body with no friends so I knit in my free time. (aka I make free time so I can knit) Anyway, I nabbed a great set of knitting looms during Black Friday a few weeks ago and haven’t been able to put them down.

hand-knit white cowl scarf

Consequently I now have a surplus of scarves. Seriously scarves everywhere! Which really is’t a problem except I wanted to share the love, which is where the fun comes in for y’all. Giveaway time! Enter below for your chance to win a hand-knit white fluffy infinity scarf!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

If you don’t want to wait for the giveaway, I can also make you one (payments via PayPal). Colors can be negotiated so shoot me an email if you’re interested (blondersideoflifeblog@gmail.com)

Also I’m not gonna be around this ole blog this weekend so if you wouldn’t mind sharing this post for me. Perhaps use the clever tweet below I’ve left for your use…..please and thank you 🙂
