Winter Office Wardrobe Must Haves

Have I told y’all I finally got a full time gig?

I didn’t think so. I’m actually on my way to CT for a training seminar today. So yay me, I’m the official new Wellness Program Coordinator at an Independent Living Facility here in Mass.

The name says it all. I schedule and coordinate all programming in the community including outings, performances, clubs, groups, fitness classes, challenges, etc, etc….

There’s a knitting group (love), book club (double love), and all activities are over by 4pm….um my life…..Can we all say perfect job for me together?

So with this transition from working in mostly a gym setting to an office every day means I need to step up my wardrobe game….like big time.

Winter Office Wardrobe

Scarf (now $7) / Dress (under $10) / Boots/ Leg warmers (only $7!)

No more tights and gym shoes for me. Nope! I gotta trade in my dri-fit for silk and whatever the heck else real clothes are made of. Cotton?

I’m not starting completely from zero though, I’m not that much of a kid still….just mostly.

So once I knew I got the job, I started looking for more office attire. Without that first paycheck though, that means I’m shopping on fumes. As in my budget is pretty tight right now, but I still wanted a “congrats on your first day of an adult job” outfit.

Here’s where Sammy Dress comes in.

They have a ton of cute clothes with very affordable prices. Best part is that customers actually upload photos of themselves wearing the clothes so you can see how it looks on a real person!

I don’t know about you, but seeing anything on a model is gonna make it look cute, but what about someone who looks like me?

Now I don’t know about you, but I’m a big fan of dresses. Especially in the Fall/Winter. Toss on a dress over a pair of leggings, add boots and viola! Perfect and cute office attire.

Of course being the youngest person at work by 50 years doesn’t set the bar too high….

Since it’s winter, a scarf is another must-have. It’s cold outside and sometimes warm in the office which means scarves are great layering pieces! And who doesn’t love scarves? I’m an addict. Some girls collect shoes or bags, I collect scarves like it’s my j.o.b. I also make a lot of scarves (high five for the knitters of the world!) so I have a constant supply to satisfy my need.

But now how do we make this super adorable outfit look professional and not just cute? Put a blazer on it!

At least that’s what I do. Check out a few of their blazers here.

I have yet to wear my brand new blazer to work yet, but I’ll let you know how it goes over in my office of two.

Hemp Hearts Winner

Happy Monday Spring Breakers!

Or rather I suppose if you’re reading this you’re most definitely Not on Spring Break. I’ll still be visiting your blogs however, b/c I live dangerously like that.

I’m just poppin in from Boston, where yes we did get some snow last night, I’m really good at planning warm weather vacations.

Mother Nature Can Be kind of a D

Oh Hi there Mother Nature,

I see you’ve decided in all your vindictive fury to send down more snow upon us. Thank you for your infinite slap in the face. The gift that just keeps on giving. The guest who’s overstayed their welcome.

May I just make one teeny tiny suggestion though?………Perhaps stay away from the South where no one and their grandmother knows how to deal with it?

I realize this is kind of forward of me, us being old pals and all. I really do enjoy the snow, you know that. I find a beautiful tranquility in it every time. So please don’t misunderstand me. It’s not you, it’s Kentucky.

Seriously, Kentucky, get with it! It’s called a snow plow and simply clearing the main roads does no one any good. Case in point….I spent 1.5 hours Tuesday digging out my car…with a broom because I couldn’t find any snow shovels. (Granted this one is a little on me for not owning my own snow shovel, but I’m not on trial here)

However, digging one’s car out from under a mound of snow does no good when the rest of the parking lot is still buried under said mound of snow (10inches to be exact, my photos doesn’t do the depth justice) I don’t know about those tough New Englanders, but I for one do not have the stamina nor the desire to dig out the remaining 300 parking spot lot from my car to the exit…..

Then Mother Nature, in your most practical jokster way, found it fit to undo all my hard work with another 6 inches of snow…..You sure got me ya goof!


Anyone in the main office to talk to about this travesty? No of course not because they didn’t come in to work all week. Makes sense to me. I mean after all, if we can’t get out how can they get in? It’s actually rather logical.

I can’t really complain all that much, I know since I did get an entire week off. Well, I took Wednesday off even though campus was open b/c ain’t nobody gettin out of this parking lot! (also classes are for the birds, get me outta here Graduation!)

Le sigh……life is fun.

But seriously I really do enjoy the snow, and with a proper shovel I don’t even mind shoveling it. Remind me of this silly statement after a winter in New England…..I hope everyone is stayin safe out there and keepin warm. And if you’re not…well, may I suggest you make some nice warm chili or cookies? Works for me!

Getting Yourself to Exercise in the Morning

Welcome to the Secret Blogger Club Blog Hop!

Before I get down to business, is anyone else as stoked as me about the two-day event of the Bachelor starting this Sunday? It’s ok if you don’t want to admit it, but I know I’m not alone in this like decade-long obsession. #HopelessRomantic

Anyway, I can’t think of a good segway to what I really wanna talk about so let’s just pretend I said something really clever and we all laugh as I transition…..

I’m a morning person through and through. I’ve never stayed out all night and when the clock chimes 9pm I start winding down. In college that was definitely not the “cool” thing to do, but I survived and am now the envy of all my co-workers.

Be to work before 6am? Sure, can do! But workout at 6am? not my favorite activity……

Morning Exercise

See I’m a Slow morning person. As in I like nice slow mornings and if that means they need to start before the rooster crows than I’m A-ok with it. I like to wake-up, scroll through Instagram, read the paper, relax as I got through 50 outfits. It’s awesome.

But see, I also only have time to exercise in the morning b/c I work until 7-8pm most nights, and w’ve already established I like to be in bed by 10, if not earlier and reading a book. So that leaves me with morning exercise. I’ve compiled a pretty comprehensive list of strategies I use to get up and movin first thing in the morning…..Maybe one or more of them willhelp you out as well.

Self- Pep Talks

– “Think about how great you’ll feel afterwards!” This one can usually do the trick alone. I always do feel great afterwards so I’m not even lying to myself! However, when the snows come a blowin and the 15 minute walk from my car to the gym is a bit too daunting I haveta resort to some dirtier tricks.

– “You wanna fit into that swimsuit?? You know, that swimsuit you never wear anyway b/c you have irrational fear of the water? Yea that one!” I really do hate the water so rarely will you find me in a swimsuit. However that early in the morning my brain forgets this fact and I get out of bed.


– “If you go to 2 spin classes this week you go to Dunk’s! Remember how much you love Dunks?” Not the best option since rewarding yourself with food is kinda a no-no, but it’s effective nonetheless. Plus I always treat myself to a vanilla chai tea latte and everyone knows those calories don’t count (big lie)

– “Pizza” SImple, yet highly effective

Cruel and Unusual Punishment

– “Ok self, if you don’t get to spin class this morning you can’t watch the latest episode of the Bachelor!!!!” No lie, this is what got me up Tuesday morning this week. I usually watch it with a friend the night of, but we had to cancel and you can’t let an episode of the Bachelor just sit around unwatched….

Vegetarian Quinoa Chili

Happy Monday Folks!

I had  pretty slow weekend. I read three books… not too much to report on that front. instead I have a yummy, delicious, filling recipe for y’all.

It’s no secret that I don’t really eat a whole lot of meat. It’s b/c I don’t like preparing it more than anything. I occasionally have chicken or fish, especially when I go out to eat, but at home I make mostly meatless meals. It forces me to fill up on veggies b/c that’s all I have on hand.

So when I was really craving my Mom’s chili, and after making the quinoa salad,  I decided to do a little off-roading and create my own. Honestly, chili is so easy to make I can’t really claim this as my own recipe even if I didn’t follow any one else’s recipe. Heck there’s only so many ways to make it. Amiright?

Vegetarian Quinoa Chili

I choose to fill mine with beans, black, red, and navy to be exact. I also added corn, green peppers, and green onions. I finished it off with quinoa as the filler since without meat it’s more like soup, not a hearty chili. I also made this in my crockpot, but it can easily be done on the stove as well. After you cook the quinoa, basically you’re just warming things up! What’s easier than that!!

Really nothing, so there’s no excuse Not to make this meal people. As a self-proclaimed hater of all things cooking that doesn’t involve chocolate, I super enjoyed making this. Super enjoyed…not entirely sure that was proper English, but it remains true all the same.The smells alone, I mean com’on!

I will warn though, that after sitting in the fridge overnight the quinoa soaks up most of the remaining liquid, so either add extra when cooking or be happy with more of a casserole the next day. I left it as is and thought it was fine.

  • 1 cup cooked quinoa
  • 1 chopped green bell pepper
  • 1 can sweet corn
  • 1 can black beans
  • 1 can red beans
  • ~4 stalks chopped green pepper
  • 1 package McCormick mild chili mix
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups water

Cook quinoa then combine all other ingredients and warm. I made it even easier by dumping it all in my crock-pot on high for an hr or so so I didn’t have to watch it. I completely made up this recipe too so feel free to get as creative as you’d like with it. The ingredients I used just happen to be some of my faves but I think I would add some avocado next time? I’m on a slight bender with avocados right now…..

So there ya have it. A super easy and meat-free chili recipe that’s sure to please even the most staunch of meat lovers.

Winter Came to Kentucky

Happy Monday Folks, and boy what a Monday it is!

We got snow over the weekend here in Kentucky and I couldn’t be happier 😀

It’s taken me a long time to appreciate the snow. I used to be a Debbie Downer like everyone else when the white flakes started a’comin down. But as I’ve gotten older (and learned to drive in it better) I’ve realized how much I really do love it.

I mean look at that gorgeous sky post snow!

I had to work Saturday morning so I got up extra early to take advantage of the fresh snow sans foot prints, and boy it did Not disappoint!

I haveta preface this next photo however, b/c it looks like I’m endangering everyone on the road and while that’s still a viable argument I realize, the light turned green right as I snapped the photo. God gave me enough brains to know to not have my phone out while actually driving. I even let the man across the street turn in front of me before I gently pressed the gas to accelerate at a safe speed…Good Samaritan status right there….

Major props to the UK grounds crew for keeping the sidewalks salted even on a weekend. Of course there was some big ROTC gun flinging contest involving rival schools so I’m sure that’s the reason and not me working the gym. Either way I thank you.

Now this next guy was a interesting find…..I’m assuming it represents some sort of tender embrace for incoming students since it’s right by the freshman dorms. However, I’m not too sure how comforting a cold steel hug would be so I’m not entirely sure. On second thought it kinda looks like it’s doing the Macarena!

Sunday was perhaps even more fun since I didn’t have to work. Some friend and I got together for some yoga. We’ve all been practicing out inversions so that was the task at hand. I finally nailed crow pose but side crow still eludes me. Headstands still scare me but I got into one a few times before I chickened out.

Then b/c we’re girls and taking pictures is life, we headed outside to have some fun. The result was pretty epic….

How beautiful is my friend Natalie!! She’s clearly better then me as the next photo can attest, but that’s not what yoga is about people. I really love how the reflection from the creek turned out. I felt all artistic and cool taking these photos 😀

Balance and flexibility have never been my “thing” which is one reason yoga is so difficult for me. But I love it and even if I do think about my to-do list or what I’m gonna eat for lunch instead of clearing my mind, I still feel a sense of calm and peace. Plus a real badass when I land an awesome pose!

Irish Soda Bread

Guess who’s computer isn’t busted? THIS GIRL!!! SO a few of my keys don’t have their backlight anymore but other then that it’s completely fine so we can all breathe a collective sigh of relief. I haven’t been able to write a new post however, so y’all are getting an archived one (albeit slightly random…sry)

St. Patricks Day……Almost 2 wholes weeks ago and I’m just now posting the recipe I promised. Blogger win am I right!?

I’m officially bringing to you my new favorite treat bread. Carbs are treats to me, I love them that much, but alas so do my hips so ya know…treats…

If there was an easier way to make bread they’d haveta call it breathing (forgive my cheesy jokes)


Anyway, I actually did make this Monday night for dinner, but you know me and blogging. It takes me a hot minute to get stuff up on here lol. So even though it’s not St. Patty’s day anymore, that’s no reason not to make a yummy treat for yourself. I got the original recipe from Marcie at Flavor the Moments, she made a delicious looking Apricot Orange bread. I wanted to start simple so mine is just cinnamon, but Marcie’s is the next one I’m goona try!

Irish Soda Bread

  • 4 cups flour
  • 4 Tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 4 Tablespoons unsalted butter (I used salted and it was fine)
  • 1 & 3/4 cups buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tablespoon cinnamon

Preheat oven to 375. Mix all ingredients and cut in butter until mixed. In a separate bowl whip with a fork buttermilk and egg together. Then slowly add in to the dry ingredients. Note that the dough will be really wet and probably stick to the beaters. Once all combined, pour (or dump in my case) the dough onto a floured surface.


Knead a few times until it’s in the round shape. Put onto lined baking sheet, I had tinfoil on a pizza sheet like a Boss. Mkae sure to cut a small “X” on the top before you bake it. I’m sure there’s some sort of reason other then to make it look cool but Lord knows I don’t know it. Anyway, bake for 45-55 min, I did about 52ish. Let cool and enjoy!

Sometimes You Just Need Cookies

Remember that 10mile run I was talking about the other day? Well it didn’t happen…maybe later today? I’m actually writing this while watching the Tennessee Volunteers play-in tournament game (wed night). Whoo Go Vols! (edit: WE WON!! You’re goin down UMass) That being said, excuse any typos or random rants that may or may not find their way into this post.

I was all set to run when my adorable sister just begged to spend time with me (I’m that cool) and how could I deny her the glory of my presence? That’s just cruel, so of course I had to go shopping with her for like 6 hours in which I spent entirely way too much money and of course bought her and I a terribly unhealthy lunch. Sometimes you just need a hotdog in your life….live a little ppl, that’s all I’m saying…


Then my Mother asked if I wanted her to make my favorite cookies before I left and how can I deny Her the joy of watching me eat all the cookies in one night? I’m such a giver….Because when I blow a running day, I blow it hard…….Not sure that’s what I meant but there ya have it ya gutter-minds 😉

So no run as of wednesday, it all hangs on thursday’s shoulders if I wanna get to one of my favorite Knoxville greenways. Actually can we just take a second to talk about my Half Marathon that is next weekend? I’ve kinda fallen off the training wagon this week and it is bad that I’m not too worried about it? See when you’re a back middle (that might be a bit of wishful thinking) of the pack runner like me, just finishing without a knee-implosion is an accomplishment!

No, no I really do have a time goal, but Run the Bluegrass Half is known for it’s brutal beautiful rolling hills so I’m not exactly looking for a PR. Just a good time and the world’s most beautiful medal at the end…seriously that’s what they’ve promised, so my expectations are high.

What I really want to know is if any of YOU Lovelies are running the Run the Bluegrass as well?? AND if so we are required to meet-up before, during, or after….all are acceptable, none is not an option. Let me know below!

Days Gone By

Look who it is everyone! Yes I’m still alive and no I really didn’t have time to write. A better blogger would have had guest posts or already written posts scheduled to go…..well if you’re a reader of MY blog, you’ll know I’m not that girl…..sorry not sorry.

Midterms are “almost” over (one next Mon) but I’m free for a week for now so no studying for me! I have already had a wonderful day shopping for bridesmaids dresses with my sis and future sis-in-law.


We said Yes to the Dress! Though let’s be real those attendants ignored us in favor of the 8 brides in the store but I guess I can understand. Commission on a wedding dress versus a bridesmaid dress is a fat paycheck so whatevs. We had a lot of fun trying on fancy dresses so it was a great day. And it was followed up with lunch at Salsaritas. (it’s literally exactly like Chipolte and Qudoba)…..yum….


The rest of the day consisted of more shopping, lots of catching up and story telling, a redbox movie and these….


I finally got me some Girl Scout cookies and they were gone in one night. Though let me say, I didn’t eat them all myself….just most of them. Seriously thin mints are like potato chips, you can’t eat just one!

I also want to introduce one of my new favorite music artists. At least new to me, I’m usually way behind on these things haha. Her name is Yuna and she sings the soundtrack to my life (If I lived a really cool life anyway) This girl has such a smooth sound, happy or sad I want to croon right along. I’ll spare y’all that disaster so just check her out instead.

Oh and as promised I tried to get more pictures of the puppy, but good LORD it’s hard to get her to sit still long enough to snap a photo!

Have a MARVELOUS Monday everyone!

Fly-By Friday

I really do feel like I’m just flying by (or driving by, but in a good way) today. I’m jet-setting (aka driving in my trusty silver bucket) back home for the weekend. Kinda crazy considering how it’s the middle of mid-terms and next weekend starts my Spring Break. But the Padre got tickets to the TN basketball game and y’all know I love me my Vols! (sorry professors…priorities, ya know 🙂 )


It’ll be a quick trip though which is why I’m 99% sure you won’t be hearing from me until Monday. If I survived my Cellular Obesity midterm that is…gulp, gotta love grad school.  (Seriously, though…..if you don’t hear from me, send out the search party lol)

Anyway, if you’re really good while I’m gone you might get some photos from my weekend. If not, you’ll still get photos from my weekend…something to look forward to then! Actually, I’m being a really bad marathon trainee and skippin my long run in favor of a basketball-watching, sister-shopping, yummy-dinner-eating kinda weekend. Sorry not sorry 🙂

That being said y’all need to stay on it and I’ll long-run vicariously though you….that will totally work!
